More exciting news from the 2023 Military Social Work & Behavioral Health conference held at the University of Texas, Austin, from June 12 – 14! GSS Professor Mary Ann Forgey, together with her Australian military social work colleague, Karen Green-Hurdle, presented a thought-provoking session that garnered significant attention and recognition. Their presentation, titled “Strengthening Military Social Work Practice through the Development of an International Perspective,” shed light on the importance of incorporating global insights into military social work.
The Conference:
Hosted by the Institute for Military and Veteran Family Wellness, the conference brought together experts from across the nation to discuss research and interventions that best support the military and veteran community. With a special emphasis on community and peer support, the event aimed to explore innovative approaches to enhance the well-being and resilience of our military personnel and their families.
Forgey and Green-Hurdle’s presentation received an enthusiastic response from audience members and sparked a thought provoking discussion. Their international perspective emphasized broadening our understanding of military social work beyond national borders. During their session, they highlighted their book, Military Social Work Around the Globe, providing attendees with valuable insights into the diverse challenges and successful practices worldwide.
