We are thrilled to announce that Fordham GSS Professor Carole Cox, Ph.D., has been invited to serve on the Advisory Council to Support Grandparents Raising Grandchildren. This appointment is authorized by the Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (SGRG) Act for a term of three years, beginning on the date of swearing in and subject to prescribed appointment procedures.

As a part of the council, Dr. Cox will play a crucial role in updating and implementing the first-ever National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. This is an incredible honor and an opportunity for her to make a significant impact on the lives of grandparents raising grandchildren, a vital segment of our society.

“It is an incredible honor and so nice to be recognized for work that I am truly passionate about. I started the Grandparent Empowerment Program in 1999, and it still continues today on Zoom,” Cox said. “Grandparents raising grandchildren are true heroes. I hope to now be in a position to help draft policies that are really supportive of them and address the many issues they face.”

The invitation to serve on the advisory council underscores the immense value that Dr. Cox brings to the social work profession. We are confident that her expertise and input will help advance the critical priority of supporting family caregivers, as recognized by President Biden in his recently issued Care Executive Order.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Cox on this well-deserved honor.
