Why Social Work? Why Fordham? With Olivia Meyer-Jenette, GSS ’26

0

This is a series where we ask Fordham GSS Master of Social Work students to tell us why they chose to pursue the social work profession, and why they picked Fordham for their educational experience. Olivia Meyer-Jenette is a full-time MSW student at the Lincoln Center campus. If you’d like to speak with a student ambassador about the Fordham MSW experience, contact them here.

Why do you want to be a social worker?

I was working in a corporate environment for seven years out of college, and I just realized I wanted to do something that mattered to me. A job built on emotional connectivity, like the metric being how well you present with the person rather than, like, how well you execute on this key performance indicator.

Why did you choose Fordham?

I chose Fordham because I came to the Admitted Students Day, and everyone said Fordham is a really special place, like the professors that have been here for—they were all trying to outdo each other—eight years, ten years, 20 years.

And from the moment I came to orientation for my first day of classes, I haven’t stopped smiling. I feel like I belong here. I feel like anyone could belong here. It’s just a really special place. I love school, I love this program, and I also just love talking to people. I can’t wait to talk to new students and learn about them and tell them about the program.
