0

Fordham GSS is proud to honor our graduating Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) students who participated in the CARS (Committee for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship) Research Assistant Program this academic year!

The CARS (Committee for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship) Research Assistant Program is a competitive training program intended for M.S.W. students who are interested in pursuing careers or further graduate training in social work research. Accepted applicants in the program will benefit from specialized RA positions with faculty mentors, research seminars with invited speakers, and guaranteed work-study funding of $3,000 for up to two years of program participation.

In addition to the monetary reward, accepted students benefit from advanced research training, experience, and the opportunity to work closely with faculty scholars. Students participate in research publications, conference presentations, and data collection and analysis. CARS RA students also join a community of peers with similar interests in research and scholarship.

What was your biggest takeaway from the CARS RA program?

My biggest takeaway from the CARS RA program was being a part of a project that contributes to my interest around research and enhancing my research skills with more research knowledge. I got the opportunity to be a co-author in the research project along with the publication which was an amazing experience during my time in the program.

How did this program impact your M.S.W. experience?

This program impacted my MSW experience because it gave me a deeper understanding of the research informing social work practice and the wide array of topics that can be explored. As well as receiving mentorship and educational learning opportunities on pursuing a Ph.D in the near future.
