How is artificial intelligence (AI) impacted by bias? And what can society do to mitigate this harmful AI bias, as we become more intertwined with the technology? Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service Professor Lauri Goldkind, Ph.D., says the solution comes through inclusivity. By implementing different perspectives throughout the creation of artificial intelligence tools, we can see where gaps form and address the issue before it’s too late. Goldkind argues that professionals from all fields—including social work—have something to offer the AI space.

By partnering with those coding the platforms into existence, helping professionals can use their training to prevent biases from being baked into the tech—providing a better experience for everyone. She wants to teach social workers in Fordham’s M.S.W. program that they deserve a seat at the table in these technological discussions, and their skills will only be more valuable as time passes. Learn more about Goldkind’s work with the intersection of social work and artificial intelligence.
