On November 18, GSS Professor Tina Maschi, Ph.D., appeared on the Columbia University Press blog for her newest book, Aging Behind Prison Walls: Studies in Trauma and Resilience.
“Today, we are more and more aware of a crisis that was once almost invisible,” she wrote in the blog post. “The rapidly growing numbers of older, sick, and dying people who are locked in America’s prisons. This is particularly concerning given the current COVID-19 pandemic and its pernicious impact on the prison system. Prisons were not designed to deliver acute and specialized long-term care, nor do they have the staff and resources for it.”
