“What do I really want to do with my social work degree?” is a question I’m sure we often ask ourselves.
We live in a world where we constantly expect people to take on certain roles, go down vertical paths and stay within the boundaries. But not us. We see ourselves as change agents, as innovative and curious individuals who want to think outside of the box.
L.E.A.P.’s mission is to motivate and inspire future social workers to figure out their passion, connect and network with leaders in the profession, and engage with the possibility of an unanticipated journey; one that is outside the norm, off the beaten path. L.E.A.P. is here to provide the people and the forum that will guide us in how to think outside the box and bring stimulating and refreshing perspectives and opportunities our way.

The students of L.E.A.P. executed what turned out to be a very effective pilot event on March 15th. Please read about it as you get ready for the second event!
Here’s what people had to say about our pilot:
“It was such a relief, and a joy, to have candid, truly critical, and at times frenetic conversation with so many of you!! So, what’s next?! Let’s capitalize on our momentum! Perhaps some of the alum can start working together to connect and engage other alum – thoughts? Also, I loved the idea of think tank/incubator – let’s start plotting! This also can’t be said without thanking L.E.A.P., and the UNPARALLELED Dr. Slater, for the opportunity to come together to disturb the status quo!! I’m excited for what’s next.” – Vanessa DeLappe, Fordham GSS Alum.
“Last night was amazing. It was a pleasure to be apart of the kick off event. I love the conversations that were started and looking forward to continuing these much needed discussions.” – Bianca Reid, Fordham GSS Alum.
“What a great event you organized last night at the law school! You demonstrated excellent leadership skills and were so professional in the way that you spoke, coordinated the event, and involved all in conference planning and presentations! Congratulations on pulling together such an important event for our school. I look forward to working with you on future programs that will promote LEAP goals and further the mission of Fordham GSS.” – Dr. Elaine Congress.
“Thank you so much for such an amazing opportunity. It is at junctions like this that I’m always impressed by the insurmountable outcomes of desire, grit and passion. You all did a phenomenal job with bringing together a well-developed and orchestrated event and it was beyond a pleasure to be a part of the vision. Please continue to reach out to me with any future opportunities that I can partake in. I would love to further develop what I hope to become, a life-long commitment to the Fordham community.” – Monica X. Thompson, Founder of Clinicians of the Diaspora.
“Congratulations on an exceptional event. Not only did everyone get the purpose, there was so much affect in the room that people did not want to leave including me and I was dog tired! You are onto something big here and know you have my full support and absolute respect. I am beyond excited to see what you will do next!” – Dr. Lyn Slater.
