Every year, Fordham welcomes its alumni back to the Lincoln Center campus to connect with friends, colleagues, and mentors at the Fordham Alumni Block Party. This year, the event will take place on June 20, and we’re highlighting seven (of the many) reasons why you should come take part in the fun.
If you haven’t been to a Fordham Block Party before and want a hint of what it offers, check out this video we made about last year’s event.
Music and Dancing!
It’s not a party without this pair. You’ll have the chance to dance with your social work colleagues at the GSS Reunion from 6–7:30 in the Bateman Room of Fordham’s Law School, and also afterward, when you’re invited onto the LC courtyard with the rest of the Fordham community.
Meet GSS Dean Debra McPhee
As a GSS student, you may not have had the opportunity to meet the head of our school between your classes, field internships, and a personal life. At the GSS Reunion, Dean McPhee will address the room to welcome alumni back to campus, and will stay to mingle for the remainder of the evening.
Dean McPhee loves to hear from our alumni about their incredible careers in social work, and finding out how alumni are using their degree to make the world a better place.
Fordham GSS T-Shirts and Sweatshirts Available for Purchase!
This is a first for us! At this year’s Block Party, GSS will offer Fordham GSS-branded t-shirts and sweatshirts available for purchase.
Students and alumni are always asking where they can get GSS merch. This is your chance! Every purchase comes with the opportunity to make an additional gift toward scholarships for GSS students. A gift of any size makes a difference.
Merch Raffle!
Another GSS Block Party first! Along with the ability to purchase GSS merch, we will also have a raffle giveaway of a few items of sweet GSS swag. Everyone who attends the Block Party will receive a raffle ticket and automatically have a chance to win.
Meet President Tetlow!
It’s not every day you get to meet Fordham’s fearless leader. President Tetlow will stop by during the night to address the room and conduct a brief meet and greet.
President Tetlow has always shown incredible support for GSS and our alumni. Fun fact — while President Tetlow was a Professor of Law at Tulane University, she also directed Tulane’s Domestic Violence Law Clinic, working alongside social workers to do some amazing work for the community. This experience, she said, has given her a profound affinity for the social work profession. She truly “gets it”!
Food and Drink Included with Your Ticket!
Don’t worry, we feed you! GSS will have an assortment of food and an open bar that comes with the price of attendance.
Speaking of which — this year, attendance to the Block Party for GSS alumni is only $30! This is because Dean McPhee is subsidizing the rest of the ticket, which traditionally costs $50 in total.
Where else are you getting a night out in New York City for $30?!
Connect with Classmates, Colleagues, and Mentors
We saved the best for last. You know how important the concept of community is to the Fordham alumni tradition. We do the absolute best we can to ensure our alumni stay connected with each other and with the school. Fordham is always a home for you, for whatever you need.
See who from GSS has already signed up!
In addition to alumni who have already registered, there will be over 20+ GSS faculty and staff members in attendance for you to meet and catch up with throughout the night. We’re here for you!
See You There!
We know everyone is busy, but we hope you can make it onto campus on June 20.
Social work is a go-go-go profession. It’s not often social workers get to slow down for a bit and celebrate all they have accomplished. Consider the Block Party an exercise in self-care. We all need a little bit of that right now.
