Isabella Galantuomo

April’s Activist in Action is MSW student Isabella Galantuomo, GSS ’22, who detailed her work with vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic:

“Due to the ongoing pandemic, thousands of New Yorkers have either lost or are about to lose their homes and enter into the shelter system. The eviction moratorium expired in January of this year and a lot of individuals are unaware of their rights in when it comes to housing. I work with some of the most vulnerable populations. My clients are on Medicaid and suffer from serious mental illness and physical illnesses that can range from cancer to HIV. It is my job to advocate, educate, and link them to the appropriate resources to prevent landlords from evicting them without going through the proper channels. We work closely with legal aid providers (Legal Aid Society, NYLAG, etc.) that work pro bono for people on Medicaid to empower our clients and to prevent eviction at all costs.”

Thank you for all your great work, Isabella!
