Research from Fordham Graduate School of Social Service Professor Lauri Goldkind, Ph.D., was named a top article of 2024 by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The list was released on December 26.

The article, titled “Introducing Generative Artificial Intelligence Into the MSW Curriculum: A Proposal for the 2029 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards,” asserts that a 10th competency should be added to the 2029 CSWR Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS): Social Workers demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and understanding to responsibly and effectively use Generative Artificial Intelligence tools. The article was published in the Journal of Social Work Education.

“While [Generative AI] will undoubtedly affect social work practice, scholars and ethicists have raised crucial concerns about GenAI, its potential abuses, and misuses, making it critical that social workers are trained in the proper usage of these technologies,” the authors write. “The current article discusses the recent developments in GenAI and offers social work educators guidance for including GenAI content in social work curricula to meet this proposed standard.”

Professor Goldkind has immersed herself in social work technology research for over a decade, and is a leading scholar on Generative AI’s continuing impact on the profession. To read more about her research, visit this webpage.
