In honor of World Refugee Day on June 20, Graduate School of Social Service Professor Dana Alonzo, Ph.D., and Associate Professor Marciana Popescu, Ph.D., announced the launch of a new website, Her Migrant Hub, which will serve as “a virtual safe and brave space, a network of care, an inclusive community advocating for the rights of women asylum seekers in New York City and beyond.”

In celebration of World’s Refugee Day (June 20, 2021), we are proud to announce the launching of Her Migrant Hub: A virtual safe and brave space, a network of care, an inclusive community advocating for the rights of women asylum seekers in New York City and beyond. While we are focusing on the right to health and mental health care, we commit to creating visibility on forced migration and promoting and advocating for all human rights of people with a forced migration background.
This is a safe space, and confidentiality is the rule. While we will add interactive features within the next couple of weeks, no identifying information is required. The rights of people with lived experiences of forced migration in general, and women asylum seekers in particular, are our guiding principles. The voices of women in forced migration contexts are the center of our work. We invite you to use this forum to share your stories; find resources; provide relevant information on challenges and obstacles you have faced in your experience with forced migration; and, share useful services and best practices, either as a beneficiary or as a service provider. We invite you to share knowledge, participate in different learning opportunities, and advocate to make all our communities safe.
This is a living space and it will continue to change and evolve. We do hope it is a useful resource for you and a welcoming space for many that are seeking refuge amongst us. Please share this resource and invite others to join us in Her Migrant Hub.
