Graduate School of Social Service MSW student Shenae Osborn will be honored this Monday, Apr. 26, at The New York Academy of Medicine’s 12th Annual Social Work Student Night.
That same night, Osborn will conduct a presentation titled The Unseen Abuses. She will be honored alongside other social work students in the New York area, from schools such as Adelphi School of Social Work; Columbia School of Social Work, Lehman College, CUNY, Department of Social Work; Touro College Graduate School of Social Work; and Yeshiva University, Wurzweiler School of Social Work.
“The privilege of being selected by the New York Academy of Medicine to represent Fordham University’s Graduate School of Social Service is not only an honor but an opportunity to increase awareness among healthcare professionals regarding the importance of recognizing the unseen abuses against women and children, which are rarely taken seriously but instead mistaken and minimized,” Osborn said. “The lack of acknowledgment of these abuses often leads to mental health conditions like anxiety and depression, which, at times, leads to suicide. It is my hope to continue presenting at such remarkable events and creating curiosity among the audience and public so that together we can protect women and children across the globe for the unseen abuses that create deep scars within the mind.”
The event will be held virtually from 5:30 – 7 p.m. ET. GSS Associate Dean and Professor Elaine Congress, Ph.D., will also serve as a co-host.
