GSS Westchester New Student Orientation

0

New surroundings for a growing student population!  To accommodate Fordham GSS Westchester’s burgeoning student body, the annual GSS Westchester New Student Orientation was held for the first time on the picturesque grounds of Fordham University’s Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx.  Hosted at the Gabelli School of Business’ newly-renovated Hughes Hall, GSS Westchester students experienced a day filled with school spirit, new friendships, and an introduction to the vision and purposes associated with being a social worker.

Starting off the Orientation were warm welcomes by Associate Dean Ji Seon Lee and Assistant Dean Linda White-Ryan.  The administrative staff followed with introducing themselves to the students who they will be serving throughout the academic year.  Following a presentation entitled Introduction to the Social Work Profession by Dean White-Ryan, Westchester faculty members offered the in-coming students valuable content that will help carry them in their graduate education.  Professor Janna Heyman gave valuable academic tips to the audience in her presentation on constructing literature reviews.  Professors Cynthia Poindexter and Dana Marlowe discussed human rights in a presentation entitled HRSJ: Inclusion & Diversity while Professors Dana Alonzo and Howard Robinson engaged students with a talk entitled Ready to Begin Your Journey to Become a Social Worker? Along with faculty, the GSS Westchester Field Department consisting of Ms. Vincenza Corcoran and Ms. Gail Davenport delivered vital information on field instruction for those students registered for field placements.  The overall response towards these workshops were extremely positive.

Congratulations to all of our new students at the Westchester campus.  The GSS Westchester community cannot wait to assist you on your journey towards your MSW degree!
